Another Five 80's Sword and Sorcery Movies As Inspiration For Your Old School Sword and Sorcery Campaign

Here are five movies I watched while shut in with the wonderful weather we've been having in Ct. Its screwed up my games for the last couple of days and meetings with friends as well as players. Gotta love winter! Anyhow here's a quick list of 80;s  S&S movies.
Excalibur
Dragon Slayer
(fan made sorry)

Conan 1982

Wizards 1977
Fire and Ice

  1. The first four are solid picks. I've never seen the last one. But have to nitpick, a list of 80s Sword & Sorcery films without Hawk the Slayer is not a complete list at all. ;)

  2. I own all of these and have Peace from "Wizards" tatooed on my left arm.

  3. I own all of them, but I've not upgraded Wizards and Fire & Ice to DVD from VHS yet.

    That's a good 5.

  4. Good choices, though Wizards actually came out in 1977.

  5. Conan the Barbarian was the D&D game we said we wanted to run.
Conan the Destroyer was what our D&D games always turned out to be!

  6. Tim Short - Hawk The Slayer gets his own blog entry. That movie is in a class all by itself and its as you know one of my all time favorites. Thanks for the comments and Hawk The Slayer is coming up soon!

  7. Timothy Brannan- Glad I could help and take a look at Excalibur for a classically different portrayal of Morgana Le Fey.

  10. Trey you are completely right but I saw Wizards on Beta Max back in 1980 from a copy of a 'Good Times' brand tape that was made. We had a friend of the family who worked for a few of the local Ct. VHS and Beta Max companies back in the 80's. He's a whole other blog entry and one of my mentors. Another friend who started me on this road to ruin with his movies and garnered my appreciation for all things science fiction, horror, and sword & sorcery hence why a '77 film is on this list. Thanks for the comment and more of my tales of woe coming up!

  11. fractalbat- I hear ye brother. Conan was such an influencal film and even Destoyer that for a little while I'd swear on a stack of Bibles that every D&D game I encountered was like that. I swear sometimes that I'd loved to have played in a S&S Destoyer themed campaign. Most of the ones I played in ended up like an episode of Benny Hill with lots of running around.
